Milad ul-Nabi: Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

Calligraphy-Name-of-MuhammadToday is Milad ul-Nabi, the observance of the birthday of Muhammad, may he be blessed.

The earth has birthed many wondrous children,
but Muhammad has surpassed them all.
Earth and heaven laugh and rejoice,
saying, “From our wedding such a king is born!”
Heaven is bursting with joy because of him;
earth has become a lily through his purity.

[Mathnawi IV: 1017-1019, The Rumi Daybook, tr, by Kabir & Camille Helminski]

Blessings upon his mother, Amina, and all the mothers of the world.
