Rumi's Circle

a community of lovers

Mevlana’s Urs Collective Remembrance 8pm

Mevlana TombToday we remember the Union of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi as he passed into the Unseen, reunited with his Source, giving thanks for his beautiful example and grace, and that of his mentor and beloved friend, Shams of Tabriz.

We invite you to join us in collective remembrance not only throughout the day but especially at 8pm GMT where many of this community of lovers will join in zhikr and prayers of light for our communities and our world. As we face the darkness, let us not forget the Light that gives us strength to rise again and again.

He who gave light to my heart
also gave me power.
The light in my heart
strengthened my hand and foot.
He gives us opportunities to rise
and also to bow.
Time and time again,
He shows this help
to those who doubt
as well as to those who can see.

[Mathnawi I: 1366-1367, The Rumi Daybook, tr. by Kabir and Camille Helminski]

A little while before his death, Mevlana opened his eyes and seeing his Murids [students] weeping and grieving around him said, “My death is true birth. I came from God and I am going to God. I am becoming His bride. Don’t weep for my death. Play music and dance. Mention God. All of us we came from Him and surely we will return to Him. Praise the Lord!”
