We are proud to be supported MACFEST, Manchester’s first Muslim arts and culture festival. We will be offering a whirling workshop as part of the festival.
Saturday 17th November, 2:00–3:30pm
Sufi whirling (or turning) is a form of moving meditation rich with spiritual symbolism. The dervishes’ turning bodies echo the motion of the planets, emptying themselves to receive and channel divine grace. Join Rumi’s Circle to explore the roots of this sacred tradition, with poetry by Jalaluddin Rumi. This practical workshop is accessible to all, offering a chance to witness a demonstration by dervishes from the Mevlevi Order and to learn the basics of the whirling technique. This is a carpeted venue so bring leather socks or smooth-soled shoes.
